Politics, Shmolitics. Part 1

As a Christian I have a big responsibility when election time roles around.  That responsibility is to not get to involved (involved meaning emotionally caught up in the process).  I can’t let what ever party I chose to back replace my first love, Christ.  I have the same responsibility when it comes to family also, I must hold Christ above wife and child also.

It’s easy to think that your party is Gods party.  It’s easy because if you are a believer, than you want to elect the people that will be the most God honoring.  In other words, if you believe that giving to the poor is God honoring (and it COULD be), then you vote for the people who say they will give to the poor.  And if you believe defending the defenseless is the most God honoring thing (and it COULD be), then you will vote for those people.

But this is the conclusion I have come to about Christianity and politics.  Feel free to disagree.  But I think ultimately you have Democrats, Republicans, and Christians.  I don’t mean to say you can’t be a Republican or a Democrat and a Christian at the same time, but I put it in those words to stress the fact they are different.  They have different aims, different goals.  Republicans and Democrats are trying to shape and form and effect society for the betterment of people (I assume the better there, the other option is that they are just power grabbing. Although i am sure it is true for some I cant read minds).  They have different philosophies, but ultimately that’s there goal.

Democrats or liberals seem to look at the country, and see problems and say “how can government fix these problems?”  Republicans or conservatives seem to look at problems and say “how has government either caused these problems or made it worse by trying to help?”  I admit those were general and broad brush strokes, but I believe they sum up both sides up pretty well without getting into all the little details and boring the crap out of the blogger.

Christianity is different.  Its main concern is the glory of God, and everything works off of that.  It sees people as sinners, and in need of repenting.  It sees the news of Jesus’ Cross the most important news in the history of man.  The most important thing a person needs is not a welfare check or a tax cut, its reconciliation to God.

Where as a political party is trying to impose its will by getting their people elected and passing laws and appointing judges; Christians should be proclaiming “the excellencies of Him who has called you out of Darkness into His marvelous light.”  -1 Peter 2:9

This is getting long. End part 1

I agree with you. When God is continuously taken out of government we are a hopeless country. Instead of debating over policies we need to be having a country wide prayer meeting. Without God we will fail no matter how good the speech was. I have more to say but don’t want to get long winded. Waiting for Part II.
